MISERY SIGNALS IN STUDIO TO RECORD NEW ALBUM FOR FERRET MUSIC THIS FEB TO BE PRODUCED BY DEVIN TOWNSEND
“Misery Signals has risen the bar for all modern metalcore bands, let’s just hope they all get the memo.” Absolute Punk.net
Misery Signals has announced that they will be stepping into the studio this week to begin the recording process for their third Ferret Music full length, album title TBA. The band will be recording with Devin Townsend (Strapping Young Lad, Darkest Hour, Soilwork), and are excited about working with him again, tells bassist Kyle Johnson, “Devin has this awesome new set-up and new gear, so that’s exciting. Recording with him is a good experience, and we intend on using him as producer as well. He always makes great contributions and suggestions to the songs, and he is really understanding about what kind of sound we are going for.” Townsend himself is gearing up for a momentous experience, saying that "This is gonna be a record that brings the band to a new level. The rock will continue to roll in a fastidious way." The band is well along in the process of writing, tells Johnson, “Musically the songs are written, but lyrically we are still writing. Basically, we took both records and put them together, with a new sound mixed in as well. This will be a little more straightforward than the last two albums, and for the most part it’s influenced by what we are into personally. It’s definitely more something that has parts that you can hold onto and that are memorable.” This is the band’s second album recorded with vocalist Karl Shubach, and he is happy to have comfortably settled into his role. “I feel like it's my band now, it's not Misery Signals plus Karl and I’m much more comfortable being part of what we represent. I also feel like music is more of my own, and I’m psyched about the new record, it’s got a lot of elements that weren’t in last one, a lot of parts that are just heavier with a lot of off-time polyrhythm like Meshuggah.”
The new album is the follow up to 2006’s highly successful sophomore effort Mirrors, which Alternative Press listed in their 100 BANDS YOU NEED TO KNOW 2007 issue and Revolver as a BAND TO WATCH saying, “A relentlessly ambitious melodic, metalcore band with a knack for exhausting members with their take-no-prisoners touring schedule.” Metal Edge chimed in recently with, “The album surpassed all expectations.” Online raves included Digital Metal.com: “Everything on Mirrors is bigger and better than Of Malice and the Magnum Heart (itself one of my favorite metalcore albums); the packaging, the production, the riffs, the density etc.” The band toured a ton in support of Mirrors, most recently wrapping up a US headlining tour with The Agony Scene, Emmure, and Sky Eats Airplane, and a full Canadian run with Shai Halud and The Human Abstract. Past touring partners include The Chariot, All that Remains, Darkest Hour, Dead to Fall, Norma Jean and Between The Buried And Me. Keep checking www.ferretstyle.com for album updates. |

HEAVY HEAVY LOW LOW
|
IN STUDIO TO RECORD NEW ALBUM DUE OUT ON NEW WEATHERMEN SUMMER 08!
Everyone’s favorite spazzy hardcore champs Heavy Heavy Low Low have entered the studio to record their sophomore release for New Weathermen.
The album is due out late Spring 08, and is uniquely titled Turtle Nipple In The Toxic Shock.
Never failing to intrigue, the title is a good representation of some of the wacky hijinx that will ensue when the album hits your CD player, tells vocalist Robbie,
“The whole album is really about having a good time. We’re always out to just do what we enjoy, go out on the road and make weird music. The album is just a bunch of jokes about all of the random enjoyment we have had on tour.”
The band is currently recording in their hometown of Oakland, CA with good friend Sam Pura (North, Strata, Seize the Night), who did the EP that caught the attention of their New Weathermen home.
The band has spent the past few months completing the new material, and Robbie would describe it as,
“The Beach Boys on acid, basically. We really incorporate a surf rock, spacey vibe, and it’s not as breakdown-oriented. It’s still heavy, don’t get me wrong, but this one will definitely exceed a half an hour in running time.” |

BIOMECHANICAL on Bruce Dickinson's BBC6 rock show tomorrow!
|
Hi-definition metallers Biomechanical will guest on Bruce Dickinson's BBC6 Rock Show this Friday 25th Jan at 10pm UK time.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/bruce_dickinson/
Recorded in London last week, Dickinson talks to John K and new Biomechanical guitarist Chris Van Hayden about the new album, flying planes, recording and drum sound as well as playing tracks from 'Cannibalised'.
Biomechanical mainman John K states:
"I have been a huge fan of Maiden and I never had the chance to meet any of the members so it was a big deal for me to meet Bruce. He has also been a huge influence on me so it was just a great experience and a bit surreal talking about 'Cannibalised' with him.
The show was great fun, I went with guitarist Chris Van Hayden who is also a fighter pilot. So Bruce and Chris had lots to talk about in the studio and I was trying to follow the flying discussions with a baffled look on my face! Cheers to Bruce for having us, it was awesome meeting the main man!"
Listen in to hear tracks from the forthcoming new album 'Cannibalised', released 11th Feb 2008. The limited edition first pressing comes with 4 exclusive bonus orchestral tracks.

Matt Barlow to rejoin Iced Earth
|
In News that came as a shock to many of us, Matt Barlow, legendary vocalist for Iced Earth, has rejoined the band! The below is an excerpt from the bands website, written by Jon Schaffer
Well, after getting out on the road and speaking with many of you directly, I decided to call Matt and see how he was doing and if he was interested in working together again. I am proud to say that he is coming back to Iced Earth and we will be getting back to work in the studio very soon. Matt will be singing on Part 2 of the Something Wicked concept CD and we will be looking forward to getting out on tour and delivering a series of Iced Earth shows that will rival any in the history of the band. And there will be a proper DVD filmed from this period, something we?ve all been waiting for. Tim Owens is a great and talented singer and I wish the best for him and his future on a personal and professional level. There will be more news soon as to further developments and plans. This will push back the release of Part 2 a bit. Not because we couldn?t be ready to record in time, but because of a new addition to Matt?s family in early 2008!
I am very happy to announce that Iced Earth is truly BACK! Have a great holiday season. We?ll be in touch very soon with more details. Jon Schaffer www.icedearth.com

Message from Heathen
|
We LOVE you guys,
Over the past few years, this page has been an inspiration for the band and has kept us going, knowing we had a huge following out there who want to see a new album in the stores.
After a long hard slog, We can finally reveal some details!
Firstly, Long time drummer and metal brother DARREN MINTER and Guitar Virtuoso TERRY LAUDERDALE have left Heathen. To replace them, we have been searching long and hard and have finally found a couple of guys to carry on the Heathen Legend.
As of this moment, I can tell you that we've been working with Kragen Lum - guitarist from PROTOTYPE (www.prototypeonline.com). He's a great guy and an even better guitar player! CRUNCH AND ALL.... You may have heard Prototype on GUITAR HERO 3, where they have a song included in the game.
Filling in on the drum stool is the very awesome MARK HERNANDEZ. He has played with VIOLENCE and currently is the drummer for RE-IGNITION, SOCIAL UNREST and many more!
With the line up fully restored, We are proud to say that we have a new deal with MASCOT RECORDS and will be entering the studio soon to record the new Heathen Album!
We couldn't have done this without you guys sending us such a huge amount of praise and respect. We love every one of you for it and we hope you'll stick with us in 2008 for the new album.
Cheers

News from Aarni
|
Aarni thinks we have finally finished mixing Tohcoth and so the album has been sent to Tuomas McElä (of Jääportit fame) for mastering. Also A.Tolonen (the famous weresquirrel gnawing the kantele in Nest) currently busies himself applying crowning touches to the album booklet and covers. The long overdue release will most likely happen in January 2008 ev, unless the two gentlemen mentioned above somehow become unduly motivated and complete their work earlier. Having stressed ourselves out needlessly over the last three years it has taken to make Tohcoth, we naturally cannot take a healthy break even now...so Aarni has just rereremastered the combined Demo 2001 & 2002 cdr. Now it has more clarity, presence, bottom end and blah blah. You can also hear all the bonny bad mixwork, groovy glitches, amazing audio artifacts and climatic clipping much better. The third time saith sooth, so we swear we won't touch those timeless tracks ever again. Let the dead bury the dead...if you already have a version of the Double Demo, you probably have no need of this final remaster. But if you don't have it, get yours for 6 € (including postage and shit). Cheap at twice the price. In other neurotic news, making of the next album has already begun. More "eccentric", HC, counterculture and UG again(?) perhaps. I will also be contributing my gleeful guest vocals to a New Worlder music project in the very near future, as well as partaking in the ongoing recordings of the scatomadness that sensitives call Umbra Nihil. Yea...if some of you should feel interested, we still have a number of the Skepticism Tribute 2CD copies left. Pay us 10 € for yours (including shipping planetwide) so we can go get some candy and shit. There's also an Aarni discussion forum in the planning, where retards can share their problems and mediumistic messages & instructions from dead uncles. www.aarni.info |

The band comments as follows: "We're excited to announce that we'll embark on the EASTPAK ANTIDOTE tour that will take us through Europe together with the fine metal merchants of Soilwork, Caliban and Sonic Syndicate. It's a rotating bill, and the playing order is determined by the relative sales figures of the bands in each country (which is the most fair way of doing things). We'll headline in Italy and Spain as far as we know. Note that for contractual reasons we won't be appearing on the Scandinavian dates of the tour, so the only way for people in Sweden, Denmark and Norway to see us this autumn is to attend our own headline shows in early September. To avoid any speculation or gossip, we remind you that this is the first European tour that actually is officially confirmed by us, so the claim by certain news sites that we've 'cancelled' other obligations (referring to the previously announced European tour with ICED EARTH) in order to be part of this tour therefore aren't valid."

PAIN - Message from Peter regarding Paradise Lost tour
|
Hello Painheads,
We´re having a blast doing all the festivals: the response has been great and there's been a lot of partying.
There seems to have been a big mix-up regarding the Paradise Lost tour...so just to clear up any confusion: PAIN won't be part of that tour. We were trying to get but in the end it just didn't work out. So note that any promotion you see where PAIN is listed as main support is false.....no business like show business!
However, we are working on setting up our own European tour for the fall. So hope to see ya all soon, and cheers

On their Relapse debut, Warsaw's ANTIGAMA are firing on all cylinders, combining the raw-power of old-school grindcore with the spastic acrobatics of modern technical metal. Resonance is a work of precision insanity, catchy misdirection, and psychotic momentum; certain to drive the listener to frenzied extremes never before experienced. |

HAMMERFALL: 'Best Of' CD Title Announced
|
Swedish melodic metallers HAMMERFALL have set "Steel Meets Steel - Ten Years of Glory" as the title of their upcoming "best-of" collection, due on October 12 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD will include around 25 classic HAMMERFALL tracks along with three new songs which are currently being recorded at Mi Sueno studios in Tenerife, Spain: "Last Man Standing", "Restless Soul" and "HammerFall v1.07".
Commented the band: "We're celebrating our ten-year anniversary as a record-releasing band in 2007, remember? We spent seven weeks or so here five years ago, recording 'Crimson Thunder', and a fortnight for the mix of 'Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken', so it was a great pleasure to once again walk into the arms and home of the Deris [Andi Deris; HELLOWEEN vocalist] family."
HAMMERFALL recently announced the return of bassist Fredrik Larsson to the group's ranks. Lead singer Joacim Cans said, "Fredrik recorded 'Glory to the Brave' with us, so he's definitely a part of the family. It's great to have him back!" |

ARCH ENEMY Guitarist Says New Album Will Have "More Riffs, More Melodies"
|
ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott recently spoke to Decibel magazine about the recording process for the group's follow-up to 2005's "Doomsday Machine", due later in the year via Century Media Records.
Vocalist Angela Gossow has become one of the preeminent screamers in metal, and according to Amott, she intends to bring more of her formidable live present to the band's seventh album. "She's been working a lot on her voice and she's got some new deranged witch vocals; she's got some really intense stuff for the new album," Amott says. "On the last album, she double-tracked everything, but this time she wants to stay with the one single voice, and I think more of her personality will probably come out in the vocals."
The album has ARCH ENEMY reuniting with Fredrik Nordström, who last worked with the band on 2001's "Wages of Sin". "Fredrik produced that record and I think the material we have is a little bit more in that vein," Amott says. "It's more intense than what we've seen on the last couple of albums. We went back a little bit to what we did on 'Burning Bridges' and 'Wages of Sin', with more riffs, more melodies, a bit more stuff going on, more action-packed." |

ANATHEMA Frontman: "We Undoubtedly Have Our Best Music Ahead Of Us"
|
ANATHEMA frontman Vincent Cavanagh has issued the following update:
"No, we're not dead. We had a couple of injuries, but nothing life-threatening. In fact we have not stopped recording here at Les' Sewerside Studios and have now completed demos for 11 of the 14 songs that are in contention for the new album. Over the next week we should have the other three in the bag (musically; a few lyrics to be finished). After that it's back to the pracky room in Liverpool to get in shape for our upcoming tour and festivals. Like you, we are waiting for news from record companies; the ball is in their court. Meanwhile we'll be constantly writing and developing the songs. It looks like festivals will take up most of July. As soon as they're done we'll begin recording the bloody thing! Then, more touring and the cycle continues!
"So, contrary to [rumors], we're not splitting up while we undoubtedly have our best music ahead of us, and yes... it is taking as long as TOOL or RADIOHEAD, but if that's what it has taken to finish an album worthy of such esteemed company, then thats OK by me. For anyone less patient, come see us live soon; we might just give you a taste. It's easy for me, of course. I listen to this stuff every day."
ANATHEMA has set "Everything" as the title of its new album, tentatively due later in the year.
ANATHEMA is currently unsigned as a result of having been dropped by BMG/Zomba after its previous label, Music For Nations, was folded into parent company Zomba Records Group (the world's largest independent music group). |

Arcturus - R.I.P.
|
Official statement from Arcturus :
A lot of rumours have been going around after our gig in Melbourne. Simen opened the concert with the words "Welcome to the last Arcturus-show ever". This is a decision we made some time ago. We all have a lot of things going on in our carreers and our lives, and therefore can not find the time to continue working with this band.
We are humble and grateful to all the people that have supported and loved us over the years.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE: Wisconsin Date Scheduled?
|
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE has reportedly scheduled a date at Alpine Valley in East Troy, Wisconsin on August 24.
RAGE currently has four shows scheduled this summer on the Rock The Bells tour. Following the 20-minute sell-out of the July 28 Rock The Bells concert at Randalls Island in New York City, a second New York date was added on July 29. RAGE will again appear, along with the WU-TANG CLAN, CYPRESS HILL and others. RAGE is also playing Rock The Bells dates in San Bernardino, California on August 11 and San Francisco on August 18.
Tickets for the July 29 Rock The Bells show go on sale Friday, May 4 at 10:00 a.m. via Ticketmaster.
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello told Launch that more touring is a possibility, don't hold your breath for a new RAGE album. "There are no plans to do that," he said. "That's a whole other ball of wax right there. Writing and recording albums is a whole different thing than getting back on the bike (laughs), you know, and playing these songs. But I think that the one thing about the RAGE catalog is that to me none of it feels dated. You know, it doesn't feel at all like a nostalgia show. It feels like these are songs that were born and bred to be played now." |

ATHEIST Announces Romanian Concert
|
After completing four successful shows in the last three weeks — including a co-headlining concert with OBITUARY at the Knitting Factory in Los Angeles and a headlining appearance at Chicago Powerfest, plus two club shows in Tampa and Miami (which saw a "who's who" of metal legends in attendance, such as Jack Owen [DEICIDE, CANNIBAL CORPSE], Pete Sandoval [MORBID ANGEL], Ben Meyer [NASTY SAVAGE] and Mike Browning [NOCTURNUS]) — reactivated seminal technical metal pioneers ATHEIST have announced that they will perform in Bucharest, Romania at The Live Metal Club on June 21. The band will also appear at this year's Hellfest in France on June 23 as well as Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium on June 22.
Commented ATHEIST frontman Kelly Shaefer: "We wanted to get a show on that side of the planet in hopes that it will help the folks in Turkey, and surrounding areas get a chance to see the band before we wrap it up. We have always received a tremendous amount of support from that part of the world, and it was very important that we be able to book a show in Romania! We look forward to seeing you all in June!" |

KING DIAMOND: 'Give Me Your Soul ... Please' Artwork Revealed
|
The cover artwork for KING DIAMOND's long-awaited new album, "Give Me Your Soul ... Please", has been posted online here: www.metalblade.com/english/artists/kingdiamond/background/featured/mainalbum.jpg
Revolver magazine recently reported that KING DIAMOND's new CD was inspired by a painting called "My Mother's Eyes" which the band's distributor in Denmark stumbled across while surfing the Net (and which Diamond has since bought for the new CD cover). The more Diamond looked at the image of a battered blond girl with blood covering her white dress, holding out palms affixed with protruding eyeballs, the more it captivated and inspired him. "I can feel the energy of the front cover in all the songs we wrote, and it will definitely affect my lyrics," he promised.
KING DIAMOND guitarist Andy La Rocque recently returned home to Sweden after "a very heavy and intense mixing session" in Dallas, Texas with King Diamond on "Give Me Your Soul ... Please". "It's definitely the best songs and production we've had in years!". "A rollercoaster of atmospheres and horror is a good way of describing" the new CD.
"Give Me Your Soul ... Please", will be released in North America on June 26 via Metal Blade Records. Massacre Records will issue the album in Germany on June 29.
"Give Me Your Soul ... Please" track listing (songwriting credits included):
01. The Dead (King) 02. Never Ending Hill (Andy) 03. Is Anybody Here? (King) 04. Black of Night (Andy) 05. Mirror, Mirror (King) 06. The Cellar (Andy) 07. Pictures in Red (Andy) 08. Gimme Your Soul (King) 09. The Floating Head (Andy) 10. Cold as Ice (King) 11. Shapes of Black (Ki | |
